Les Cevennes are a mountain range stretching across three departments: Lozere, Gard and Ardeche. The landscape consists of granite and schist rocks, caves, gorges, passes and cirques... Located in the west of the region, le Haut pays cevenol is home to a lush fauna: mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, insects, fish ... There, the landscape consists of high pastures, rocky chaos, magnificent panoramas over the Aigoual massif...
Les Cevennes Vivaroises, in the north-east, display schist crests revived by torrential rains, separated by deep valleys where extraordinary terraces modeled by man can be seen...

Taking the Regordane (an ancient Roman road) you will follow the footsteps of the pilgrims on their way to Holy Land... Visiting the temples, you will relive the Camisards war and the fight for religious freedom during the XVIIIth century. Churches, castles, St. Jean Cathedral are absolute must sees.
Coal mines and spinning silk factories, now closed, preserve the memory of the region's industrial heritage...
For the anecdote, Scottish writer R. L Stevenson, published in 1879 his book " Travels with a donkey in the Cevennes", sort of diary of his epic journey in the region...
